ABOUT US
What is hd3rd?
We believe that everyone deserves access to safe, welcoming spaces where they can show up fully and freely. This project, “Halifax/Dartmouth 3RD Spaces”, was born from a shared desire to make it easier for folks across Halifax and Dartmouth to find spaces that center community, care, and connection.
This digital directory highlights free events, gatherings, and third spaces that exist locally, so we can bring more people together. Whether you’re new to the city, organizing something grassroots, or simply looking to connect, this is your guide.
About the initiative
This project was created through RISE, a program of Apathy is Boring under Canada Service Corps, which empowers young people to co-create projects that strengthen democratic and civic engagement in their cities. We represent the Halifax team as part of this national initiative.
This idea connects to civic engagement because it lowers the barriers to community connection through an easy to view digital resource. Our goal is to increase accessibility and lower barriers to community connection & engagement in Halifax and Dartmouth.
Our team
We are a group of young people aged 18-30 living in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). While we each have our unique backgrounds and reasons for joining RISE, overall we felt disconnected from our community and wanted to address this barrier through a community project.
Our mission is to foster more connection, engagement and information through a guide that highlights our free third spaces, events, and gatherings in Halifax and Dartmouth.
